Sphero activity mat 1 - Racetrack mat

The mat can be used while using Draw, Block or Text projects in the Sphero Edu app. Racetrack Challenge: Students can work together to programme the Sphero SPRK+ around the track on the outside of the mat. Two teams of students can race against each other to complete the reversible track. Students between the ages of 7 and 16 can use the block or text projects to create their own code to run the SPRK+. They must take into account headings, angles, speed, distance and time while programming the SPRK+ around the track. Circles Challenge 1: Students answer maths questions by programming SPRK+ to move to one of the numbers. The teacher can ask '5 + 6' or 'square root of 81' and students of any age can use a character print, block or text project to programme SPRK+ to the correct number. Circles Challenge 2: The coloured circles form one 2D shape per colour. The square between each coloured circle is one side of a 2D shape. Yellow = Square. Red = Rectangle. Blue = Hexagon. Green = Irregular triangle Purple = Triangle Students can use a character print, block or text project to use code to explore the properties of the 2D shapes. Gates Challenge: A truly interactive challenge that develops problem-solving skills, co-operation between students, computational thinking and knowledge of angles, shape and space. Beginning at 'START HERE' and ending at 'FINISH HERE' students must use a block or text project and follow the instructions at each gate.
