Spongostan gelatin sponge effectively stops venous and capillary bleeding and is suitable for use where normal haemostasis is difficult to achieve, or where tamponade with an absorbable material is desirable. Consists of purified gelatin and is prepared via a water-gelatin solution to a porous sponge structure which is then dried and sterilised in the package.
